A record-breaking number of delegates gathered at the 14th Annual Meeting of the International Society for Medical Publication Professionals (ISMPP), which took place from 30 April to 02 May 2018 at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center, National Harbor, MD, USA.
Under the theme of from publication to practice: advancing science through effective communication, the ISMPP meeting addressed a number of hot topics in medical publishing, including: patient centricity, sharing of clinical data, the place of preprints and open access in facilitating scientific exchange, and the need for engaging and ‘snackable’ content for time-poor healthcare professionals.
Once again, a team from CMC travelled from our US and UK offices to participate in ISMPP committee activities and contribute to the meeting itself, including leading roundtables and meeting delegates at the CMC booth. During the meeting, the results of the ISMPP Board of Trustees Election were shared, including the appointment of Kirsten Parr (Head of CMC CONNECT) as the new At-Large Trustee and Claudia Piano (General Manager and Head of Client Services, CMC AFFINITY) as the new Nominating Committee Trustee. Alice Choi (Global Head of CMC) also received special thanks for her role in leading the ISMPP Strategic Vision Workgroup.
In addition, a poster co-authored by Alice Choi and Mary Gaskarth (Head of Scientific Services, CMC AFFINITY), in collaboration with others from the pharmaceutical and medical communications fields, was awarded a prize for visual communication, in part due to the innovative use of augmented reality; this came after the poster previously received the prize for best original research at the European ISMPP meeting earlier in 2018 (poster accessible to ISMPP members here).
